The Old School House, Cloyne, Co. Cork

€325,000

Detached House

Property Overview:
Overall Floor Area: 278.7 Sq. Metres (3,000 Sq. Feet)
Property Description:
"THE OLD SCHOOLHOUSE"

Here in Cloyne is an outstanding example of a restoration project
handled correctly from start to finish. This magnificently restored
former Schoolhouse, currently used as a home, has unlimited
potential for any number of uses from its current incarnation, to
retail or perhaps the hospitality sector. With a fantastic location
in the centre of Cloyne town the Schoolhouse would certainly make a
very enticing bar or restaurant.

With the outer shell dry-lined and insulated the exterior of the
Schoolhouse maintains all the charm and character of its glory days
when it was completed in 1886.

Similarly, little or no change has been made to the interior
structure of the ground floor with the four classrooms remaining
true to their original measurements. However, some adjustments have
occurred. Take, for example, the Living Room dominated by the
large, original, handcrafted limestone fireplace leading through to
the lounge area complete with solid wooden floors and an impressive
red brick bar constructed from salvaged materials in order to help
fill the lounge that was deemed to big for day-to-day needs.

Pine floors throughout the house have been given an antique look
with a coat of slight oak stain, an aging technique used during
restoration work on old historic buildings. Similar distressing
techniques were used on other areas of the house, such as the new
stained glass doors, leading from the lounge to the Dining Room in
order to reintroduce a nostalgic sense of the classroom back into
the home.

Although in certain areas of the house split-levels have been
introduced for practical purposes the Kitchen stands at full height
in order to maintain the full impact of a floor to ceiling stone
wall that only needed a dusting down to be restored to its original
beauty. Beautiful terracotta tiling and a cast iron solid fuel
stove, which runs into the estuary of two fireplaces in the
adjoining rooms adds a warm glow to this exquisitely earthy room
and casts an inviting glance to the bright & spacious Dining Room
with beautiful wooden floors also.

In order to avoid disturbing the fantastic original beams on the
ceiling, three stairwells now lead from the downstairs to the four
fabulous bedrooms which all boast a fabulous web of the schools
original oak beams and pine trousseaus. The spacious Master Bedroom
is complete with solid pine floors and benefits from ample storage
space.

The second & third Bedrooms are equally proportioned while the
Master Bedroom is beautifully presented with a walk in robes and an
ensuite.

In contrast to the gentle ambience of the rest of the Schoolhouse,
which welcomed around 200 pupils on any given day, the splash of
decadence in the burgundy Bathroom offers a tempting day off school
to lie back and guiltlessly study nothing at all whilst being
massaged all over by jacuzzi bubbles.

There's no question about it. School was never like quite like
this!
